If you've recently brought a new puppy into your home, I have a thoroughly thought out package to set your new pup up for grooming success. Puppies can be naturally cautious in new surroundings, and a grooming salon is likely to be an unfamiliar place for them. The sights, sounds, and smells they’ll encounter during a grooming session can be overwhelming, potentially leading to anxiety about grooming as they grow older if not handled with care. My Puppy Package is designed to gently introduce your pup to the grooming environment over four fortnightly sessions, helping them build positive associations and look forward to grooming.

 

Why Do Puppies Need Special Attention?

 

Puppies are experiencing the world for the first time, and grooming salons are new and unfamiliar and can be daunting for your new pup.  Your puppy is likely encountering a variety of new sensations, sights, sounds, and smells for the first time while being groomed.  This package is all about easing them into these experiences at a comfortable pace:

• Getting used to the general atmosphere in the grooming salon

• Becoming familiar with the sensation of water on their bodies

• Learning to feel comfortable with having their feet and ears handled by someone new

• Gradual desensitisation to the grooming process

 

The goal is to make sure your puppy feels safe and secure throughout each session. My approach focuses on building trust and confidence, ensuring that grooming becomes a positive and enjoyable part of your puppy's routine.  The puppy package consists of a number of visits that are spaced out at around two weekly intervals.  Each step has been thoughtfully designed with your puppy in mind in order to set them up for a lifetime of grooming success.

Visit 1
Your puppy’s welcome to Fab Dogz! Starting off with a sniff and a play period to get them used to the grooming environment. Starting with you present at the mobile salon, i will gently handle your pup’s feet, ears, teeth and tail to desensitise and familiarise them with being handled, and heap them with positive reinforcement and praise. At the same time i will chat with you about your pup’s breeds and needs from a groom.

Visit 2

This time, your puppy gets a bath! With a view to familiarising them to the sensation of water on their body, and especially around their face and ears, this also helps your pup get used to the bathing tools I use, including my gentle dryer. This is a great experience for all young dogs, not just those that need regular grooming, because having a bath is a universal requirement!

Visit 3

A combination of visits 1 and 2, but this time I introduce a brush and trim if required. But I also include lots of desensitising playtime to include playing with their paws, opening their ears and stroking their tail. These are movements that dogs are not naturally accustomed to but need to get used to in order to tolerate typical grooming appointments.

Visit 4

It’s time for your puppy’s first full groom by bringing all of the elements together and adding some extras! Because of my gentle familiarisation process, your puppy should now tolerate a range of grooming activities – this session includes a bath, brush, face trim, nail cut and ear cleaning as well as a coat tidy depending on breed.
